The Newport Canopies are fabricated using glass reinforced polyester resin ( GRP ). This resin technology is used extensively in professional building restoration and renovation. Indeed resin is the principle component of such diverse items as luxury yachts, truck bodies and spacecraft. On a pound for pound basis modern GRP resin is stronger than concrete, steel, or aluminum. GRP cannot rust, rot, tear, rip, sag or warp and is impervious to insects, moss and vegetation, rain, snow, and ice. Since the color pigment is embedded in the resin, not painted on, color fastness is assured. The non-corrosive nature of the material means that no leachate is produced that can discolor abutting masonry or wood surfaces.

The Newport offers two different roofing designs. A translucent roof sheeting allows 85%of the ambient sunlight through while blocking 96% of the harmful Ultra Violet radiation. This assembly allows the canopy area to retain the natural sunlight keeping it well illuminated. For those desiring shade, a white opaque roof sheeting is also available blocking out 100% of the ambient sunlight. It is also possible to combine the two types of roof sheeting into one assembly, thereby dictating where the sunlight will fall. The Newport has the flexibility to be installed in projections from 2.5 to 12 feet, with an unlimited length. Special brackets allow the Newport to make 90-degree turns, expanding the design possibilities.
